I just can't make any sense of this one. Why would you let someone like Jeremy Lin go? Is it really just the luxury tax? Are you telling me that the Knicks have all of a sudden decided to become fiscal hawks like David Brooks?
Do they not at all factor in all the lost ticket sales that are coming now that they let him go to Houston? Do they really not care about losing the brand new market of Asian basketball fans? Linsanity is what finally got a deal on the MSG contract dispute.
His play also revitalized the season. I just don't get it. What's really going on here? Is this to please Carmello Anthony?
“Even the Knicks couldn't botch this one, could they? Let him walk because two years from now they might be overpaying the one player who makes people jazzed about being Knicks fans?”
Never underestimate Jim Dolan again. This is the same guy who remains enamoured of Isiah Thomas and counts him as one of his closet advisers. A poll shows that 70% of people think the Knicks made the wrong move.
Mike Lupica's explanation of the move only makes it worse as it confirms my suspicion.
"But the New York Daily News’ Mike Lupica writes, “For now, the Knicks make the right play by letting Lin walk. You have to know that they were never going to be Jeremy Lin’s Knicks. Now they are, more than ever, Carmelo Anthony’s Knicks, today and next season and maybe for a long time.”
Yeah,, great, Carmello Anthony is about the only happy person in NY today. It's outstanding to know that though the team will be .500 every year,, he'll get his 40 points per game.
I tell you, I don't even want to hear about the Knicks and basketball anymore. Yes, I'm still a Knicks fan-that's for life-but with the Yankees contending for another World Series with the best record in the majors, and the Giants set to begin defense of their title in September, who even wants to think about the Knicks and basketball here in NY-as opposed to Houston?
I got the Yankees, Giants, and even the Rangers to keep me warm. Can't wait till September when Applebees starts its Sunday NFL deals-$.25 wings, $1.00 sliders all day! I won't even look at a Knicks game until February after the Super Bowl.
